[June 2010] Carl Schultz, PE of AEC and Peter Bardwell, FAIA of Bardwell + Associates recently presented a seminar titled “The 2010 Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities” to the Columbus Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. The seminar focused on the major guideline changes from the 2006 edition.

[June 2010] Carl Schultz, PE recently had his article “Closing the Cogeneration Gap” published in the June edition of Engineered Systems magazine. The article discusses the use of cogeneration in the commercial, industrial and institutional buildings sectors.

[March 2010] Benjamin Biada, PE, LEED AP, has recently had his article "Earning LEED 2009 Water Efficiency Credits" published in the March issue of CSE Magazine. The article discusses strategies for earning the more stringent Water Efficiency Credits for LEED v3 (2009).

[February 2010] Carl Schultz, PE, LEED AP, has been appointed by Ted Strickland, Governor of the State of Ohio, to the Board of Building Standards based upon his recognized ability and experience in the use of energy conservation for buildings. His term will expire in October 2013.

[February 2010] Advanced Engineering Consultants, Ltd. received the 2010 Small Business Award for Excellence in Engineering from the Society of American Military Engineers Kentuckiana Post. AEC provides a wide variety of mechanical and electrical engineering services to support the Federal, commercial, industrial and institutional facilities sectors. AEC has and continues to provide outstanding Engineer Design Services for the Louisville District of the United States Army Corps of Engineers.

[December 2009] Advanced Engineering Consultants, Ltd. received Awards of Merit from Air Force Materiel Command (AFMC) for concept design for the $44M Sensors Directorate Laboratory Addition / Alteration project and for the new $12M Security Forces Operations Center project, both to be constructed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.

[December 2009] Casey Oldham, PE and Carl Schultz, PE had their article “Biomass Boiler Basics” published in the December edition of Engineered Systems magazine . The article discusses the use of wood as a source of heating on a commercial scale and how it is considered a green, carbon-neutral technology.

[October 2009] Ben Biada, PE and Carl Schultz, PE had their article “HVAC Basics” published in the October edition of Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine . The article was conceived as a good resource for both new and seasoned engineers as well as others in the design and construction industry.

[October 2009] Carl Schultz, PE recently had his article “Natural Ventilation Basics” published as the feature in the October edition of Engineered Systems magazine . The article discusses the sustainable design practices of natural and mixed-mode ventilation.

[September 2009] Scott Gray, LEED AP recently had an article; “The ‘80s Are Over: Time To Say Good-bye To Parabolic Lighting” published in the September edition of LD+A Magazine.  The article is a commentary on the over use of parabolic luminaires in today’s office spaces.

[September 2009] Scott Gray, LEED AP recently had an article; “Retrofitting PV and wind generation systems” published in the Fall edition of Pure Power Magazine.  The article address general approaches and downfalls associated with integrating photovoltaic and wind turbine systems into existing electrical distribution.

[September 2009] Carl Schultz, PE had the second part of his 2 part article “Rethinking Central Utility Plants” published in the September edition of HPAC Engineering magazine . The article discusses energy efficient approaches to heating and cooling campuses such as open and closed geo-exchange systems.

[August 2009] Carl Schultz, PE had his article “Rethinking Central Utility Plants” published in the August edition of HPAC Engineering magazine . This is part 1 in a 2 part series that discusses the inherent inefficiencies in central boiler and chillers plants and the use of more efficient systems and approaches to providing the sources of heating and cooling for campuses.

[April 2009] Congratulations to Gavin Lim and Jordan Steele, who both recently became LEED Accredited Professionals. Gavin and Jordan are electrical engineers in our Columbus office.

[March 2009] . AEC has been awarded a three-year ID/IQ contract for providing multi-discipline A/E services for projects at the Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC). The new contract is with the Defense Logistics Agency.

[March 2009] Congratulations to Jeremy Hatfield and Scott Gray, who both recently became LEED Accredited Professionals. Jeremy and Scott are electrical engineers in our Columbus office.
