One of the first projects to be affected by the state of Ohio’s LEED Silver mandates, the new 85,934 square foot McPherson Middle School took sustainable design just a little bit further and achieved LEED Gold certification. Sustainable highlights include daylighting monitors and a displacement ventilation system. The building is designed to create smaller learning communities arranged around extended learning spaces. Shared use spaces include a 600-seat gymnasium, a flexible cafeteria, and a state-of- the-art media center. AEC was responsible for providing mechanical and plumbing engineering design services for this new school building. Construction cost was approximately $10.2 million. The building was designed to achieve a LEED Gold certification through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
