The City of Columbus contacted an A/E team for the design and construction of a new neighborhood facility to provide pre-school and family services for the Westside neighborhood in Columbus. The facility provides reliable daycare and pre-school services in a much needed area where resources and availability of services are limited. /

The new facility is a two-story, 50,000 SQ FT facility that includes classrooms, multi-purpose room, cafeteria and kitchen, indoor courtyard, indoor playground, and general spaces. The center is expected to serve 240 students. 

AEC provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology engineering design services for the new building. Mechanical systems included chilled water, heating hot water provided by condensing boilers, ventilation air via a Dedicated Outdoor Air System (DOAS), 4-pipe fan coil units for conditioned space, ductless split air conditioning systems, and a gas-fired makeup air unit and roof mounted exhaust fans in the kitchen. A Facility Management Control System was also provided for HVAC controls. Plumbing systems included domestic water and domestic water heating systems, plumbing fixtures, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and natural gas piping. Electrical systems included normal and emergency power, energy-efficient LED lighting, controls with occupancy sensors, astronomical timeclock, and daylight harvesting, and fire alarm system. Technology designs included outside plant cabling infrastructure, data/voice systems, CATV system, paging system, access control, and electronic surveillance system. An automatic sprinkler system provided fire protection for the facility.
