AEC was selected by Columbus City Schools for three separate contracts to upgrade the mechanical systems at 32 school buildings as part of the “Operation: Fix It” program to improve school buildings.
The schools varied from schools without any air conditioning to schools with some air conditioning or fully air conditioned needing maintenance. On all three projects, AEC performed site visits to assess the conditions of the schools and helped the district determine the best use for the budget available, with the goal to provide heating, air conditioning and ventilation in as many areas of each building as possible and maintain comfort and meet code required energy efficiency.
The projects also addressed electrical upgrades and roof replacement/repairs required to support the mechanical system improvements.
AEC prepared a Design/Build RFP (DBRFP) Package for each Phase addressing the specific requirements and needs at each school. The DBRFP was created based on site visits to examine existing conditions, coordination with maintenance personnel and Columbus City Schools, and input from work completed on previous phases of this initiative. AEC worked with the district to select contractors and to oversee the construction efforts.
