AEC was part of a team selected to prepare construction documents and provide construction administration services for a new crime laboratory for the Columbus Police Department. The new facility is located in a former 160,000 SQ FT warehouse, which was converted to create a 125,000 SQ FT property room for the police department under a separate contract.

The Crime Lab occupies approximately 35,000 SQ FT. The new lab houses roughly 30 staff in the following departments: Fire Arms; Tool Marks; DNA (forensic biology); Latent Print Development; Drug Analysis; Administration. The design of the environmental control systems provides for comfort for analysts as well as providing for the proper and safe execution of the lab work. Control parameters included temperature, humidity, air change rates and pressure relationships. The new crime laboratory also includes a ballistics testing facility which is constructed of reinforced concrete walls and ceiling. It includes a projectile recovery tank (PRT) with remote firing stand, firearm storage, acoustic protection, and ballistic panels at the back wall.

AEC was responsible for providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology engineering and construction administration services.
