Building 2101 at Ft. Leonard Wood was originally used as the Black Officers Club, where personnel would gather to socialize professionally and personally.

AEC was issued a task order to convert the historic building into a dual-use facility, restoring the social area to its original glory with a separate, secured training room.

Upgrades included complete interior renovation with new HVAC system, duck work, plumbing, and electrical / communication systems. The new HVAC system included a cooling only variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump system; as well as make-up air heat pump unit that has an energy recovery wheel and a propane heating coil. All of the building heating and cooling load is handled by the VRF system; which can simultaneously provide heating and cooling to different areas of the building. All building systems were brought up to code and a new telecommunications system was installed to maximize security.

The AE team maintained the historical features of the building, including the original fire place. The original social area features 1940’s period-specific décor and furnishings to keep the historical integrity and look.
