This project provides for the upgrades to the security perimeter at NASA Glenn Research Center’s Plum Brook Station (PBS) near Sandusky. The work included a new main gate designed to slow the flow of traffic and prevent a rush on the gate, crash resistant fencing and K-rated barriers, a new entry facility, and associated site development and utility installation. The design includes extensive and close coordination with the Glenn Research Center Physical Security Office in order to address their special requirements and security procedures.

The project was designed to meet LEED Silver certification be incorporating sustainable systems and features throughout the building. System features included the design of packaged geothermal or ground source heat pumps with electric auxiliary heat. The system uses the earth as a heat source in the winter and a heat sink in the summer taking advantage of the moderate temperature in the ground to boost efficiency and reduce operational costs.

AEC was responsible for design of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology systems throughout the facility and site.
