AEC Virginia Beach is involved in the extensive renovation of the old Bank of America office located at One Commercial Place in downtown Norfolk, VA. This project is converting an existing multi story office building into a mixed-used building with close to 300 high-end apartments and fitness, entertainment, business, retail, restaurant and leasing office space. The 24-story, 340,000 SF building is over 50 years old and an application was made and ͚conditional approval granted for this building to meet the rigorous requirements of an historic renovation and qualifies for the incentive programs offered by the Virginia Department of Historic Resources. This required a complete assessment of the existing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems while retaining critical historically significant features of this landmark building originally designed by SSOM. AEC was retained to perform the assessment and provide recommendations for new systems, engineering designs for MEPT, and a new fire suppression system. When completed in December 2017, the overall design for the new building will preserve much of the historic façade, features and finishes.
