The 41,630 SQ FT Controlled Environment Agriculture Research Complex is a facility dedicated to study of various food production methods. The complex includes a Headhouse and a 7-meter Production Research Greenhouse connected by a corridor.

The 17,059 SQ FT Headhouse serves as the public entry to the research facility, with spaces for gathering, teaching and learning, and houses the intense support infrastructure that sustains plant life and research activities in the greenhouse.

The 24,570 SQ FT Production Research Greenhouse is divided into 4 large compartments, which are designed to emulate the scale of industrial food production. Heating and cooling systems vary across compartments to accommodate different crops. Compartments utilized by the Food, Agricultural, and Biological Engineering department are partially detached from adjacent research compartments to ensure complete environmental independence. All greenhouse compartments have individual environmental controls and irrigation settings to facilitate numerous unique research projects simultaneously.

AEC provided full MEPT/FP engineering services including HVAC, direct digital controls, and energy calculations, plumbing including hot and cold water distribution, sanitary and fixtures, graywater/wastewater collection and re-use, fire protection system, site electrical systems including electric and communications, lightning protection and grounding, normal power, distribution, lighting, and controls, fire alarm, access control and security systems, telecommunications, and basic A/V system for conference and gathering spaces.
