The City of Columbus planned to construct a new healthcare facility to meet the Department of Health’s requirements for their operational needs. The project provides the City’s Department of Health a new facility that consists of a renovated former fire station and a new three-story, 35,000 SQ FT addition to the former fire station structure. The new facility includes office space, storage rooms, community room, small kitchenette, and men’s and women’s ADA restrooms, administrative area, medical clinic, hazardous waste room, radiology, podiatry clinic, OB/GYN clinic, pediatric clinic, dental clinic, social services, WIC clinic, vision clinic, and canteen area.
The building was designed to match the existing architectural style of the area, specifically, the historic former Fire Station No. 17. With regard to the existing structure, renovations include hazardous materials abatement; complete gutting of all architectural and MEP improvements to the basic shell, and re-introduction of new systems and architectural components throughout.
AEC was responsible for providing all M/E/P/T engineering design services including electrical power distribution, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm, illumination, system control, technology, security monitoring systems, door access control, CCTV, fire alarm, and data/telecommunication system. This new healthcare center is LEED Silver certified.
