AEC was part of a team contracted to provide mechanical and electrical commissioning services for three projects totaling over $600M construction for OSU͛s Wexner Medical Center.

The first project was a new 22- story, 1.2 million square foot hospital that included three floors of Critical Care patient beds, seven floors of Acute Care Cancer beds and one floor of Bone Marrow Transplant patient beds. The project included a new emergency power plant for emergency power to the facility, and connections to a concurrently designed and constructed chilled water plant. This project is seeking LEED Silver Certification.

The second project involved $65M in building service upgrade projects to 1.8 million square feet of an existing high-rise hospital. The project included replacing multiple dual duct air handlers with dual-path variable air volume (VAV) units, adding 480-volt electrical distribution, replacing failing sanitary sewer and condensate piping and making connections to the concurrently constructed central plant.

The final project was a new $49M central utility plant that contains 15,000 tons of central chilled water plant equipment expandable to 30,000 tons. The facility included a new emergency generator plant for emergency backup power for the facility. This facility has pumping systems located at the lowest level followed by chillers, electrical gear and topped off with cooling towers on the roof.
