The Franklin County Sheriff and Commissioners broke ground on the new Franklin County Correctional facility this month. The first phase of this project includes 900 beds for inmates and will cost roughly $175M. Future construction will lead to more than 2,000 beds and closure of the downtown jail and the Jackson Pike jail facility. AEC was responsible for electrical and technology design for this new jail. The AEC-emersion Joint Venture recently learned that we were awarded a new 5-year IDIQ contract with the USACE Louisville District. AEC-Virginia Beach received excellent remarks on a recent PPQ from NAVFAC/USACE. The project manager commented “AEC’s performance has been outstanding and their attention to the project’s requirements has been thorough and consistent. The A-E’s knowledge of the NNSY dry dock conditions and operations has been key to the success of the project design. AEC recently learned that the John R. Maloney Health and Wellness Center in Columbus achieved LEED Silver Certification! AEC was responsible for all MEP engineering designs for the new 21,500 SQ FT medical center which was constructed in 2013. Congrats to the City of Columbus and everyone involved with this project! AEC is excited to announce that we have two summer interns working with our firm this year! Brandi Downs is an electrical engineering student at Ohio State University and is on track to graduate in May 2019. Lucas Taylor is an electrical engineering student at St. Louis University and is on track to graduate in spring 2019. Both interns will work closely with the electrical engineering teams and get hands-on, real-world experience working on projects under the guidance of our project managers. Welcome Brandi and Luke!

AEC’s article “Validating Energy Models at West Point” was recently published by the Society of American Military Engineers in the May-June Issue of The Military Engineer magazine. The article focuses on a complex energy assessment and audit project at USMA’s West Point campus. The engineering team used creative methods of steam measurement to collect accurate energy usage data. The data was then used in a comprehensive report that provided recommendations on improving the steam system serving a specific area of campus, as well as other energy-improving recommendations. The AEC team continues to grow. This month we have added four engineers to our team. Andrew Jehl, an electrical engineer and graduate of Purdue University, joined the electrical team in our Indianapolis office. Daren Wade, PE, LEED AP, a mechanical engineer with 10 years of experience, joined the mechanical team in our Indianapolis office. Robert Garrison, PE, an electrical engineer with 18 years of experience, and Kevin McCaughey, PE, LEED AP BD+C, an electrical engineer with 10 years of experience, both joined our electrical team in the Columbus office. We are excited to have these four experiences engineers as part of the AEC team. Welcome!

Construction on the Delta Faucet Headquarters Addition in Carmel, IN finished in late January. The $15 million project added 80,000 square feet to the headquarters. Engineers from the AEC Columbus and Indianapolis offices began work on this project in 2014 were responsible for all MEPT/FP engineering design serivces as well as construction administration services. The Indianapolis Business Journal covered the Ribbon Cutting ceremony and overall project in a recent article.

AEC was recently awarded our first task order under a contract with the USACE Tulsa District to perform mechanical engineering design services at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma. Our team will assess current systems, identify issues, and create a Design-Build RFP package for HVAC system upgrades. This will be the first time AEC performs work at Tinker AFB. We pride ourselves on our growing Federal portfolio and look forward to more projects with the Tulsa District.

AEC is starting out the year on a positive note… We received our CPAR Evaluation for work completed on the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences Energy Engineering Analysis Program for USACE Huntsville. We received great feedback including Exceptional ratings for scheduling and management. The scope of work required Level 1 Energy Surveys and Studies to identify energy-savings opportunities and develop technical inputs for future d/b RFP packages. The contracting officer stated “AEC produced survey reports of very good quality, identifying and defining the energy-savings opportunities, including a description of the existing conditions, the proposed measure to reduce energy consumption, and estimates of cost and savings to demonstrate the investment opportunity.”
