The primary objective of this project was to replace all of the PTAC’s (Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners) in the guest rooms of the Building A and Building B wings. There are 148 guest rooms divided between the Building A wing and the Building B wing. Each guest room has one PTAC unit. Most of the guest rooms have a 38” wide PTAC, while the other rooms have PTAC’s that are 42” wide. The PTAC units are cooling units with a supplemental electric heater. Most of the units are old and are in need of repair or replacement. However, 38” wide units are not a common size anymore and are difficult and expensive to purchase.
AEC’s project manager worked with the client to determine the best path forward to overcome this costly challenge. The solution was to widen the exterior wall opening to replace the units with the 42″ standard size unit. The control systems for the PTAC’s were also updated to a more user-friendly system and tied into the Automated Logic Web Control System used at the Lodge. The new system provides greater control from the Automated Logic system and helps maintain consistency when PTAC’s fail and new units are installed. Modifications / replacement of power connections and circuiting was required to support the new PTAC units.
