AEC was part of a Design/Build team selected to construct a 50,752 SQ FT addition to the existing Strategic Weapons System Engineering Facility. The two-story, high-security steel frame addition includes open systems engineering labs, environmental labs, analysis lab, test and evaluation labs, engineering and logistics support areas, secured spaces, shipping/receiving, conference rooms, lunch/break room, restrooms, and a mechanical and electrical rooms.

AEC was responsible for providing all required mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and technology engineering design services for this project. Special features include a 1000 kW generator and UPS system, access controlled lab spaces, dry air/nitrogen distribution system, fire protection system, classified and unclassified information systems, and a humidity requirement of 40-60% lab spaces. The project also includes an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and access controls to ensure adequate security.

The building achieved a LEED Silver certification through the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). It was expected that the sustainable elements incorporated in this building design contributed to an overall energy savings of 25% and water consumption reduction savings of 30% over a baseline building of similar usage.
